In many ways, Mtuseni is a typical teenager — which means I often have to ask and remind him two dozen times to do something before he does it. So after six weeks of entrance exams, three and a half semesters, and thousands of dollars in tuition, I finally got a picture of him in school! And seeing him there makes it all worthwhile.
And that happy, cheesy smile he’s wearing isn’t faked for the camera — Mtuseni truly loves being in college and learning. (The flip side is his grouchy mood during the summer and winter breaks. But I’ll take a kid miserable with boredom over a kid miserable at school any day,)
